Camp Drop-Off

Monday we drove to Ingram, Texas (near Kerrville) to drop my 1/2 brother, Wilson, off at Rio Vista Camp where he will play hard and have tons of fun for 4 weeks. In fact, I commented several times that I wish I could either trade places with him, or wished out loud for grown-up camp (and maybe a mother-daughter camp). When I was younger, I went to Camp Ondessonk in Ozark, Illinois. I LOVED camp and feel that going to summer camp is a very important part of childhood development. The way I described Camp Rio Vista to my mother was that it is like "Ondessonk on steroids." It sits on the Guadalupe River and they do lots of activities in/on the water, including water skiing, tubing, fishing, and all manner of jumping, sliding, and boating. There is also every sport imaginable, ropes courses, animals (we saw horses, goats, and chickens), and shooting of all types (including archery and skeet shooting).

When we took him, we drove the 4 hours and then came home again. This made for a long day and too much time for Geneva to sit in a car seat, though she did very well. Since Greg drove, I was able to sit in the backseat with her to feed and entertain her. Hopefully, when we go back we will go a day early and stay the night. Especially because they have closing ceremonies at 9am on pick up day. It is a gorgeous part of Texas, smack in the middle of the "Texas Hill Country" and Kerrville and nearby Fredericksburg have neat little places to stay the night.

At 7 weeks old, Geneva is smiling a lot more. I took some video on my cell phone, but it did not look good on the computer. Here, I tried to snap a picture of a smile, but missed. It is still a good shot of her crazy hair, which still stands straight up.

This is Wilson standing with his counselor in front of his cabin. Eight boys and one counselor sleep in his wing of the cabin. The kids have outlets for fans, cubbies to store their clothes, and laundry service every Sunday. By the time we left, he was already running around and laughing with the other boys.
