Last Saturday, our family embarked to the Northeast to visit Greg’s family. We decided to fly into Newark, New Jersey rather than Scranton, where Greg’s mother lives because it cut out a connecting flight (easier for Geneva). That decision would prove to be fateful.
Before we left for the airport, Greg noticed a report stating that Newark was in the midst of a massive storm with 50mph winds. We left and didn’t really think much of it. We flew to Dallas with no problems. However, our flight to New Jersey was delayed an hour, then two hours, then three hours. We were forced to wander DFW with a tired baby looking for any relief possible. At 5:00 we finally got on our flight (we were supposed to be in Scranton by 6:30 ET), however, soon after boarding we were told we needed to sit on the tarmac. By the time we took off we had added an additional two hour delay to the original three. The flight was uneventful as Geneva slept most of the way, although the landing was a little scary with the high winds.
We thought we were there! However, we were forced to wait on the tarmac in Newark for another hour and for our bags an additional two hours. When we finally got to Nonna’s it was 6AM ET, twelve hours after we were scheduled to arrive.
Thank goodness Nonna and her friend Rachel were waiting for us at the airport. It was so nice to see friendly faces! Nonna even had a special Old MacDonald toy for Geneva.
The next morning we were late in getting around and consequently late to Williamsport to see Greg’s Nana, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Everyone was so excited to see Geneva and Geneva loved the attention. Greg’s Uncle Frank made a delicious dinner and we had a great time.
It was so nice to see everyone.
After a few days we went back to Scranton so Nonna could work. Nonna got some great one on one time with Geneva and Mom and Dad got a much needed day out. From Easter baskets to treehouses Geneva loved hanging out with Nonna.
In addition to visiting we did other amazing things with Nonna like having delicious sushi and going to a fun winery! Even after our early troubles it was an amazing trip. We had a blast and can’t wait to go back to Nonna’s!
