Michigan Trip

Greg came up during my last week in Illinois and we left to take a short trip to Western Michigan, along Lake Michigan and related rivers/lakes.  The occasion was a friend’s wedding but we went up a few days early so that it would be a mini vacation for the two of us.  The wedding fell on my birthday, making the weekend even more special for us.

We are the types of people who love privately owned bed and breakfasts and historical hotels.  We stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast in Fruitport, MI, just a few minutes from Grand Haven.  The Village Park B&B was very comfortable and its owners were kind and accommodating with a good eye for detail.  We so enjoyed riding the (provided) bikes around the lake, drinking coffee on the deck overlooking the lake, and talking with the owners and other overnight guests.  Carole (one of the owners) served some of the most delicious breakfast dishes I have ever had!  The only problem with these delicious, 3 course (!) breakfasts was that we had to do ridiculous amounts of exercise (for vacation standards)  to “maintain” our lovely physiques :)  Click here for the most deliciously decadent French toast you will ever try.

The wedding (on my birthday) was beautiful and it was so much fun spending time with Greg’s high school friends and their wives/fiancés.

In addition to biking and hiking, we tasted local wine and sampled microbrews, played in the lake, and went to a farmer’s market.  It was the perfect amount of time to be away from Geneva and a really nice getaway for Greg and I.
