Today was Geneva's first day at her new daycare. The decision to enroll her here came after an unexpected phone call this summer informing us that rather than the typical 2-3 year wait, she had a spot in the program (after 4 months on the list!) if we wanted it. Although we have absolutely loved her care provider and have felt so blessed to have been able to provide her with one-on-one care while we both worked full time, we felt this setting would now be a good fit for her. My part time/flexible work schedule, coupled with her love for being with other children and the excellence of the program and facilities ultimately nudged us in this direction. The fact that my
co-worker's daughter is also in her class (they both started today!) is icing on the cake. (Also a bonus: the 3, 4, and 5 year old classes have their own gardens!!)
Though I was anxious enough about the first day to lose sleep last night, Geneva immediately began exploring the room and didn't even notice me leaving. By all accounts, Geneva had a terrific day! She even slept on a nap mat! (My mother's response to this: "What are they doing, trying to grow her up?" Well, kind of. But it is ok. I think.)
When I came to get her, she was sitting at a table playing with food and dishes and one of the teachers was sitting on the floor beside her. She fussed when we left because she was having so much fun.
Overall, it has been difficult to leave her previous sitter, but I think it is a really great setting for her.
Here are pictures I snapped before I left this morning:
